Boulder’s Anxiety & Interactive Brain Analysis

Anxiety is not something you can simply dismiss

Anxiety is an umbrella under which several disorders hover that cause fear, nervousness, worry and apprehension. These feelings impact how we feel and behave, and they can turn into real physical problems. Mild forms of anxiety are unsettling and bothersome. Severe anxiety can seriously impact one’s life and can be extremely debilitating.

The picture above was taken at one of the altars at Interactive Brain’s office location in North Boulder at the peak of the Calwood Fire in October 2020. The experience just reminded us how primordial and frightening fire can be. This came very close for us, and you may have been touched in traumatic ways by other fears or worries.

Performance Impairment

Anxious people often experience a general sense of worry or fear before they have to do something challenging such as a test, exam, performance, or job interview. Nothing is unusual about these kind of feelings, as long as they don’t significantly impair your abilities. Anxiety becomes a problem when symptoms keep you awake at night, or prevent you from accomplishing normal tasks, or block you from connecting with other people. Generally speaking, anxiety becomes a problem when the movie in your head is always far more scary, then the real life reality.

What Interactive Brain Can Do for You

Neurofeedback, a sophisticated technology that gives you real time information about how your brain and heart are “feeling”, is a powerful tool to change your negative trepidations. Shaky nerves, a pounding heart, a panting breath, and sweaty hands are just a few examples of how anxiety plays out in physiological ways. We not only use neurofeedback to look at that, but also more simple biofeedback techniques, such as heart rate variability analysis, galvanic skin response (sweating), and capnometry with which we measure chronic hyperventilation and how much oxygen actually saturates your brain and other tissues. By showing you for example, how low your tissue’s oxygen level is and how you can change breathing patterns for the better, we let you experience how it feels when you consequently change your emotional state of mind.

Break the negative feedback loop

Anxiety is most often caused by traumatic past experiences, and the default mode is to go back to these negative sensations and thoughts when there’s no rational need to do so. Each time you relive these old fears you only make them stronger. This negative feedback loop can not be broken, unless the old experience is replaced with a new, more positive one. Let us help you reset you default mode of thinking and feeling.
